John Pearson, PhD

Assistant Research Professor, Duke Institute for Brain Sciences

John received his BS in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Kentucky and his PhD in physics from Princeton University. His graduate work focused on problems of string theory and quantum gravity. Following graduation, he made the switch to biology, first with computational models of spiking neural networks with Sri Raghavachari, then in the neuroscience of decision making with Michael Platt. Most recently, through a Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health, he has focused on applying techniques from machine learning to large neuroscience datasets.
